I chose La Mesa Auto Care because they were a member of the BBB and had been in La Mesa since 1986. What I found was that I was misled as to the cost for repairs and then charged more for a used part then I would have been charged to buy the new one. I was quoted an estimate of $600, called my husband for agreement on spending it, then when I told La Mesa Auto Care to go ahead and do the work the owner said he was mistaken about the cost of the parts and that it would be $800, but that he might be able to get the $300 fuel evap. canister for less used, if I wanted him to try. I said sure and then called around to see if I could help find a used part to save them time finding one. When I called back to let them know I found a part they said they had found one for $50, so not to worry, it was being delivered. When I went to pickup my car it cost me $700, which I expected to be less with the cost of 2 of the parts being lower. I was told that they had to drive to get the part (which I would have been willing to get myself) at $85 an hour for 3 hrs and then they charged me $140 for the part instead of the $50 they paid, some markup is reasonable but 3x the original price, so I paid $395 for the used part instead of $300 for a new one. Being a military member on a tight budget I am greatly disappointed and feel taken advantage of and will never trust La Mesa Auto Care with my automotive care needs. The only service I was satisfied with was the girls that were employed at the front counter. They were wonderful.
